Mentos and the Holy Spirit - a parent’s guide

On page 1404 of your Kidsfirebible there is a Power Point that talks about the baptism of the Holy Spirit.  Please read this page so that you can understand where we are going in the object lesson.

Things you will need:

1 - Package of Mentos (Regular old Mentos, no flavors)

1 - 2 liter bottle of Pepsi or coke, diet Pepsi or diet coke. (Name brands work better than off brands)

1 – A handmade funnel about the size of a Mentos but small enough to fit inside the 2 liter bottle of pop.  PVC pipe works great but so does a toilet paper roll.  (if you don’t have It- ok too)
(Now if you have seen Mythbusters then you know what is going to happen when you combine the two)

The lesson

After someone accepts Christ as their personal Savior they can receive the baptism in the Holy Spirit which, much like salvation, is a free gift from God.  Jesus’s friends and disciples were baptized in the Holy Spirit in Acts 2.  They were in a room praying and seeking God and they were all baptized in the Holy Spirit.  Jesus’s friends started to speak in different languages; some of them in a heavenly language and some of them in other languages heard in other parts of the world.  To be baptized in the Holy Spirit is to receive Gods presence to the point where others notice and to the point to where it overflows out of you. 

Now I have heard it said that the tongue is the hardest part of your body to control and that is why it is the final thing that God takes control over when you are baptized in the Holy Spirit.  Since you are yielding yourself to God’s control then He is able to fill you with his love, grace, understanding, boldness, insight and power to the point that you are overflowing with his love.

(Get the materials ready)

If this bottle of POP is you and the Holy Spirit is the Mentos that when the Holy Spirit goes into you then you begin to overflow with God’s love and the Holy Spirit takes control over you.

(Drop 5 or 6 Mentos in the pop and run away or you will get wet)

This is an example of how being Baptized in the Holy Spirit you’re flooded with God’s presence to the point where you overflow and others notice.
Ask if anyone has questions about the baptism of the Holy Spirit. (be prepared to answer them)

This is how to receive the gift of the baptism in the Holy Spirit.

  1. Get right with God.
  2. Ask in faith.
  3. Be prepared.
  4. Trust that you will get what you asked for.
